Description:
In the 1960s, many African states fought their independence from European colonial powers. While the Soviet Union and other socialist countries support decolonialization, the US and its Western allies see these sceptical. Their interest is especially true of the mineral resources they want to retain control.

The United States is trying unconventional and chic jazz like Louis Armstrong and Nina Simone as advertising media*inside African states to show the West positively, while at the same time figures like Malcolm X and other jazz artists are solidifying with the independence movement.

In this historic rollercoaster ride, director Johan Grimonprez has an impressive network of global power structures, anticolonial struggles and a lot of jazz. An informative, sweeping, emotionally moving film about the decolonial struggle.

Following the event on 26.02. Q&A session with
– Madge Gil Bukasa
– Prince Zeka
